FOUNDED IN 2002

Kafwa Drop In Centre is a non governmental, non profit making community based organisation which initially started its assistance work to the community in 2002. It was, in 2008, registered under the Societies Act, certificate no. ORS/102/35/3679. The Centre is also recognised by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, recognition number DSWHQ/103/9/3.

Kafwa Drop In Centre arose out of the need to care for the many orphaned children whose parent(s) have died of AIDS, HIV related diseases and other illnesses and vulnerable children whose parent(s) are either living with HIV or are out of employment and thus cannot make ends meet. The Centre currently caters to 75 children between the ages of 7 and 18. 180 of these children have since "graduated" and have gone on to attain a formal education (Grades 1-12), in various government schools.

Kafwa Drop In Centre is governed by a board of eight members who work hand in hand with the management team to ensure that the Centre operates at is best in order to meet its objectives. Currently the Centre is not funded by any one organisation. All material and financial support comes from the volunteers on the board and management team and well wishers.

Our Objectives

The objectives of Kafwa Drop In Centre include:

  • Reduce illiteracy levels among the children in Garden compound and ensure that each child receives free basic education by making certain that children ready to go to formal schools are sponsored.
  • Raise awareness on the prevention of HIV and AIDS, child defilement and drug abuse.
  • Provide counseling to the children
  • Support the guardians of the children with income generating activities.
